LONDON (and Gary Horrocks) LOVE JUDY GARLAND

There is so much going on for Judy Garland fans as of late, a new John Fricke book, JUDY A Legendary Film Career, the Film Society Of Lincoln Center and Paley Center joint film and television retrospectives, the Judy Garland at Abbey Road CD titled Judy Garland The London Sessions 1957-1964, not to mention several Judy and/or Oz festivals big and small throughout the country, that it was no surprise for me when I was recently sent a preview for a brand new documentary about Judy.

JUDY GARLAND IN LONDON 1957 is an original production of the International Judy Garland Club and is a valentine to Judy and her fans that focuses mainly on Judy's 1957 month long run at London's Dominion Theatre.

Produced lovingly under the keen and artistic eye of the club's president Gary Horrocks, the film documentary brings the same level of style and taste that Gary brought to the legendary Rainbow Review magazine and to his new JUDY GARLAND A Celebration publication.
I have no doubt it will be a big hit when it starts getting bookings at Judy Garland events.

Gary, incidentally, was interviewed recently for the BBC Radio 2 program "Dear Judy" which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Garland's Carnegie Hall triumph. Produced by Victoria McArthur and narrated by Rufus Wainwright, this audio documentary will also feature remembrances from Jerry Herman, Rona Barret, Phillip Smith, Max Preeo, Suzie Boyt, Tom Schumaker, and other notables. The show will be broadcast on July 26 and will probably be available on BBC Radio 2's website for a while after that.

And speaking of London, it happens to be the home base of the aforementioned International Judy Garland Club. For those who are members I don't need to preach to the choir and tell you how great the club is and what wonderful benefits you receive for being a a member, but I will remind you it is time to renew your membership as a new issue of the club's magazine will be published soon, and if you are not a current paid up member you will not be receiving this special edition that focuses on Judy's early years.

If you are not a member, well what the heck are you waiting for???? Click on the header of this post and it will bring you to the club's sign up page, or just copy and past this link: http://www.judygarlandclub.org.uk/

REMEMBERING JUDY

As many of you know, today, June 22, is the annivesary of Judy Garland's death.
She was taken from us 42 years ago and is still missed by millions of fans from
around the world, as well as being appreciated by scores of new fans who didn't
discover her until after her death.

Our memorial at the Yahoo group this year is very simple, Mickey Rooney sings the song he wrote for
Judy shortly after her death, Rosemary Clooney sings a Johnny Mercer tune that
was written about/for Judy, and Mort Lindsay plays an instrumental piece that
you just know is infused with feelings for Judy.

Mort and Shana Alexander also give touching spoken memorials to Judy.

You can find all these files in the group's audio section in a folder called
Remembering Judy.

I am sure we all will remember, think of, or delight in Judy in our own unique
ways today. It's raining in New York right now, I wonder if there will be a
rainbow later....
