BECOME A PART OF JUDY GARLAND HISTORY
October 12, 2011
New York, New York
by Martha Wade Steketee
Today we enter a new phase of development for the Stay All Night documentary about the witnesses to Garland's April 23, 1961 concert at Carnegie Hall -- a Kickstarter fundraising campaign.
Follow this link to see a thrilling trailer (at least I think it's thrilling!) and some text that describes what the team has been up to. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1272458252/stay-all-night
If you're inspired to become part of this historic documentary endeavor and might consider becoming a funder, check out the link. If you're just interested in the project and support it generally, that's reason to check out the link too.
This summer I wrote about a special preview screening on July 29, 2011 of the extended Stay All Night trailer (excerpted on the Kickstarter page) shown to an auditorium of lucky fans during the Judy Garland: All Singin’, All Dancin’, All Judy! events at the Walter Reade. Check out that coverage for a few additional images related to the project. http://msteketee.wordpress.com/2011/08/01/film-feature-stay-all-night-preview/
John Fricke has been involved for some time with the filmmakers as consultant and historian. I came on board over the past few months to assist with some specific research tasks, and have been quite impressed by the respect of the project team for Garland, and the concert, and its legacy, and the people who were there.
My enthusiasm about this project was at a fairly high pitch earlier this year as a fan observing press coverage. As I have gotten to know the filmmaker and others involved in the project, my appreciation of their professionalism and respect for the subject grows daily. I provide this update to keep everyone informed about the project and to present the opportunity to get involved if you are moved to do so. The Garland fan community is seen as precious and important to the project. What we think about how the project is handled is very valued by the documentary team. So check out the link, ask us any questions about the project, or follow the links to other project staff on the Kickstarter page.
