Just want to make sure you all know the new Judy Garland CD, JUDY TAKES BROADWAY! WITH FRIENDS was released today.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here so I don't need to tell you how great these songs are, and how great Judy is. But I will tell you that these recordings have never sounded better.Sail Away and The Party's Over were particular stand outs to this ear.And the booklet is great too! John Fricke's liner notes are as excellent as expected, and for such a fun read it is deceptively filled with an abundance of information. And the photo's are beautiful too, thanks to Steve Sanders and Ranse Ransone. There is one photo in particular that caught my eye, of Judy and Mel Torme performing for the dress rehearsal. Judy looks so young and pretty, and totally involved in her singing. Unlike Torme, who is also singing, but looks like he is concentrating on some off camera activity. This CD is sort of like Judy's black Edith Head dress in the wardrobe of her recordings. It is simple yet elegant, well made, with beautiful material, and with great style and impeccable taste. The recording, as well as the entire series it comes from, was made with great care, and obvious love. And these are the kind of Judy products we should be supporting.Ones that are well thought out, and show Judy as the great artist she was.Dang, I didn't mean to write a review, I just wanted to remind you the CD was coming out tomorrow. So here is the plug: JUDY TAKES BROADWAY! WITH FRIENDS. A Savoy Jazz release available May 20, 2008.And created, and produced, and championed, and consulted by so many members TJGE I am busting my buttons with pride (No, NOT ice cream, PRIDE, damn it).
