Quiet please, there's a lady on stage.
On November 17, 1968 Judy Garland made a surprise appearance at an ASCAP salute to Harold Arlen being held at NYC's Lincoln Center.
As soon as the orchestra started the intro to The Man That Got Away, Judy, who was hidden behind a flat, stuck out her hand, which was holding a microphone. Then, to the shock and delight of the attendees, she swung her body around and revealed herself to the audience. During the afternoon rehearsal Judy quipped "Can you imagine if they played that and Florence Henderson came out?" Judy also sang It's A New World from A Star Is Born, Get Happy from Summer Stock, and Over The Rainbow from The Wizard Of Oz. Judy is in great voice and spirits, and gives a relaxed and engaging performance. Huge thanks to Steven Gruber for sharing the recording he made almost forty six years ago, and grateful thanks to Tom Garofalo for his restoration work, which is beyond amazing and belongs in the realm of the magical. This recording, as presented here, when compared to the other versions out there, sounds like it comes from another dimension. One can distinctly hear the nuance and shading in Judy's voice, and what a pleasure to finally hear her in proper balance with the orchestra. Being that this was Judy's last performance on a concert stage in the United States it deserves to be heard, and we finally have a recording of it that makes us want to shout hallelujah. Bravo, Judy!

JUDY GARLAND-HERE'S HOLLYWOOD-1961-A RESTORATION
Per director Frank Labrador:
"Restoration of the segment about the filming of "Judgment at Nuremburg" by NBC-TV's "Here's Hollywood" weekday series (originally broadcast on June 23, 1961). Helen O'Connell interviewed Judy Garland on camera for this segment in March 1961, but the footage that survived does not have the complete audio. Judy's replies could be heard but not Helen's questions...until NOW. Here is the radio broadcast version of this interview, which is complete. For the first time, this radio version was combined to create this brand new, restored version of this historic interview on the "Judgment at Nuremburg" film set. For portions where there is no video, behind-the-scenes photos from David Price's digital photograph collection were used. ENJOY!
Judy Garland is readied for her first scene in the film.

JUDY GARLAND THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC
Jaycub Howard's April offering for the Judy Garland Album Of The Month series is an exquisitely crafted and romantic nod to the legendary film pairings of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. The soundtrack is from Judy Garland Second Souvenir Album, released by Decca Records in May, 1943. The album had several singles from it make it up the Hit Parade, the most successful being That Old Black Magic backed with Poor Little Rich Girl. Lyricist Johnny Mercer later confessed that he not only wrote That Old Black Magic for Judy Garland, but about her. Turns out his lifelong unrequited love for her was a muse for some of his greatest works.
Enjoy the video, it's one of Jaycub's best.

Album Of The Month: THE GARLAND TOUCH
Here is the first in a series of tributes to Judy Garland's discography, with focus on her library of Long Playing albums. Every month TJGE member Jaycub will create a brand new video featuring a song, medley, or homage to/from one of Garland's LP's.
For our first pick we have chosen a perennial fan favorite that was first released by Capitol Records in 1962, The Garland Touch.
To represent the album we have chosen track number three, Comes Once In A Lifetime, as the soundtrack to the video. The video is filled with rare footage of Judy, out and about, enjoying life, and doing exactly as her song instructs.
The Garland Touch was a "Pick Up" album that featured an eclectic bunch of singles, unreleased tracks, and reissues. The material on the album was recorded between 1958 and 1961 at several iconic recording studios, most notably the Capitol Tower in Los Angeles and Abbey Road studios in London.
The album, with additional tracks, is currently available on compact disc and as a digital download.
