HERE'S YOUR HAT

End Of The Rainbow is closing early, August 19, to be exact.
Apparently that Tony Awards appearance DID kill the show after all
(but truth be told the ticket sales for the show were never impressive to begin with).

Unfortunately for California the show is still scheduled to open in L.A. early next year and there is talk of a movie version starring Tracie Bennett (god no)

(oh god no).

This is NOT The Cover Art For The New Garland CD

This is NOT the cover for the upcoming Judy In Amsterdam CD.

That site that is reporting that it is obviously hasn't done it's homework. The image is merely that, an image. And of course we can expect something much slicker and professional looking from the good folks at First Hand.
That site is also incorrectly stating this is a re-release. Not true. The previous bootleg releases were from a variety of less than perfect sources. This is the first time the original tapes are being utilized. And this will also be the first release of the concert in it's entirety.
Not trying to be petty here, just trying to put the actual facts out there.
As soon as the real cover art comes out we will bring it to you.

Here is the rundown of the new audio files posted to the Yahoo version of The Judy Garland Experience. To access the files click HERE
Big thanks to allen for this week's homepage. As good as it looks here it looks even better on the page it was designed for.

A JUDY MOMENT
Group member Tina selected this week's AJM. Her clever choice might very well be the first time an instrumental has been posted to this particular folder. Here is Judy's overture, as conducted by Mort Lindsay at Carnegie Hall in 1998.

DOUBLE TAKE
Judy never sang her favorite Harold Arlen song in concert, but, lucky for us she sang it on television, and on these two studio recordings

DUET OF THE WEEK

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

David Price's PHOTO OF THE WEEK #31

Studio portrait of Judy by John Engstead, taken in Los Angeles not long after her engagement at the Philharmonic in April, 1952. This portrait and others from the same sitting with Engstead were used extensively a couple of years later for A STAR IS BORN publicity. (For A STAR IS BORN this portrait was assigned serial number 386-623.)

NEW GARLAND RECORDING DUE THIS FALL

The London Studio Recordings was such a great success that Jonathon Summers and First Hand Records have decided to team up again to  give Judy's famous 1960 midnight concert in Amsterdam it's first "official" release.

Considering the care and class this group brought to their last Garland recording this is very exciting news. I can't wait to hear the cleaned up and remastered version of this concert, not to mention the exciting "extras" that will be included on the disc.
The recording will also be made available for digital downloading.

From FHR's upcoming press release:

"This release will include the full programme of 30 songs as performed by Garland plus interviews with Garland, Sid Luft and conductor Norrie Paramor.  The booklet will be lavishly illustrated with photographs of Garland performing on stage at the Tuschinski Theatre.

Garland was at the peak of her career here, only four months after the London Studio Recordings and four months before the famous Carnegie Hall concert.

This special priced 2CD jewel case issue will be released in Autumn/Fall 2012 and copies can be purchased two weeks prior to its official release date at a further discounted price direct from the FHR website."

THE JAZZY SIDE OF JUDY GARLAND

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY PRESENTS THE RETURN OF ACCLAIMED VOCALIST

REBECCA KILGORE
IN HER NEW SHOW:

“THE JAZZY SIDE OF JUDY GARLAND”

FEATURING THE HARRY ALLEN QUARTET
JULY 31 – AUGUST 11

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY, the nightclub proclaimed “Best of New York” by New York Magazine and “an invaluable New York institution” by The New York Post will continue its Summer 2012 season with the return of jazz vocalist REBECCA KILGORE in her new show “The Jazzy Side of Judy Garland.” She will be joined by The Harry Allen Quartet which features Allen on the tenor saxophone, Rossano Sportiello on piano, Joel Forbes on bass, and Chuck Riggs on drums. This tribute to the music of Hollywood legend Judy Garland features numbers like “The Joint Is Really Jumpin’ in Carnegie Hall,” “The Boy Next Door,” “Down With Love,” “The Man That Got Away,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart,” all with Kilgore’s special jazz twist. “The Jazzy Side of Judy Garland” runs at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street) from July 31 to August 11.

REBECCA KILGORE is one of America’s leading song stylists intent on preserving the vocal jazz of the 30s and 40s, an era which she feels remains unsurpassed in its high quality songwriting and heartfelt lyrics. She regularly performs worldwide at jazz festivals, jazz parties, and on jazz cruises. She is a frequent guest on National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air” with terry Gross, has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion,” and with Michael Feinstein at Carnegie Hall.

Kilgore has performed around the country at venues like The Jazz Bakery in Culver City, CA; The Plush Room in San Francisco, CA, The Concorde Club in Southampton, UK; Murphy’s Place in Toledo, OH; and The Firefly Club in Ann Arbor, MI. In 2010 she was honored to have been inducted to the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and to the Jazz Society of Oregon’s Hall Of Fame, and to have been invited to perform at New York’s Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention for two consecutive years at Town Hall and Lincoln Center. She hosted “The Singer’s Voice,” her own radio show for KMDH 89.1FM, Oregon Public Broadcasting, www.kmdh.org.

Her many recordings include the recently released Live at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, which celebrates the musical collaboration of Billie Holliday and Lester Young. In The New York Times, Stephen Holden called the show “a sexy, lighthearted dance” and Ms. Kilgore “a wonderfully fluent jazz stylist with clear enunciation who exudes a serene mastery of phrasing.” She also recently collaborated with jazz guitarist-vocalist, John Pizzarelli, for her album Lovefest at the Pizzarelli Party. In the summer of 2011, her show "Some Like it Hot – The Music of Marilyn Monroe" had a critically-acclaimed run at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY will present REBECCA KILGORE with “The Jazzy Side of Judy Garland” from Tuesday through Saturday nights at 8:00 PM from July 31 to Saturday August 11. The performance has a $30.00 cover with $50.00 premium seats, in addition to a $25.00 food and beverage minimum. Jackets are suggested but not required.
