NEW FILES POSTED TO THE YAHOO GROUP (for the week of September 11, 2011)
A JUDY MOMENT
Judy sings AMERICA (My Country Tis Of Thee), 1941.
BING AND ROSIE #393
Another entry in our seemingly endless supply of episodes from Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney's morning radio show. This edition was originally broadcast on August 31, 1961.
COULDA SHOULDA WOULDA
In the premiere installment of a new weekly feature, the great Shelby Lynne gives a unique and heartfelt interpretation of a song we wish Judy would have sung. The lyric of this Bill Carey/Carl Fischer song reads like a great dramatic monologue and I can picture Judy singing it with a sparse piano accompaniment (maybe in the trunk spot on her television show). Each week we will feature a new song that we wish Judy coulda, shoulda, woulda sung.
DUET OF THE WEEK
Bing Crosby and Liza Minnelli evoke memories of Barbra Streisand and The Beatles.
ENCORE
Judy sings America The Beautiful (1964).
HOLLYWOOD RECORDING SESSION
Lengthy files of material from the Atchison, Topeka, And Santa Fe sessions.
JUDY AND VIRGINIA O'BRIEN 1943
Command Performance #58 from March 20, 1943. Judy Garland plays host to the Woody Herman Orchestra, Virginia O'Brien, Kenny Baker and others. Garland kicks off the show with a home run performance of Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart. Judy sang this song most of her life and it must have been one of her favorites because it never got old and her performances of the song were always joyous!
JUDY GARLAND IN CONCERT
Per a request, here is Judy live at Merriweather Post Pavillion, September 8, 1967.
JUDY IN THE STUDIO 1962 (oh so rare)
Hold on to your hat's, here is Judy's 1962 stereo studio recording of Some People from Gypsy. This studio rehearsal was recorded prior to the Judy Takes Broadway session/concert and finds Judy in superior voice. Her interpretation is exciting, if slightly tentative, which is understandable since the chart is brand new to her. But any studio recording of Judy singing a classic show tune is always a good thing, no? Sorry about the watermarks but it is the only way I can present this material.
JUDY TAKES MANHATTAN
Judy's 1962 follow up album to Judy At Carnegie Hall was called Judy Takes Broadway and consisted of modern showstoppers. The album was recorded but wouldn't see the light of day until Steve Sanders rescued it and released it as JUDY GARLAND LIVE! in 1989. 22 years later we went back to Sanders and asked him to choose 3 tracks that he thought best exemplified the spirit of the album. Here are those three songs along with a 4th unreleased track that, for obvious reasons, never made it to the disc
