On Tuesday November 12th the Variety Club honoured Judy with a luncheon at the Savoy Hotel. As ever she was self-effacing in the midst of adulation. She stood up for her speech facing all the top celebrities in show business (including ex-Prime Minister Earl Attlee) and nervously offered: “It is wonderful to be here. I am no damn good at making speeches” before promptly sitting down. Alan King took over with his comedic repartee. I'll send you some newspaper clippings from the event for the blog.
