FLOWERS FOR OUR LADY

Member of the FB version of The Judy Garland Experience, Marc Charbonnet, made the trip to Ferncliff today to pay his respects to Judy. He left four dozen yellow and white roses for her on behalf of the International Judy Garland Club and the entire Judy Garland fan community.
Marc even thought to request the florist make sure the yellow roses had a blush in the tip. Brings to mind the Judy Garland Rose, don't you think? Marc's comment on his visit is as elegant as the flowers, "It was so nice to be there I said" Thank you Judy" I sat for just a minute. Just lovely!"

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN THE YAHOO GROUP

Here is a recap of the latest audio files that have been posted to the Yahoo version of The Judy Garland Experience:

A JUDY MOMENT
This week's A Judy Moment has been turned over to Judy's old accomplice, Mickey
Rooney, who sings and plays his original composition "Judy" written for who
else, Judy Garland.
This simple, yet poignant, song may tug at your heartstrings, so be forewarned.

JUDY, THE FIRST, AND FINAL, RECORDINGS
Because this week is the week that it is I thought I would post Judy's first
known (exsisting)recordings (November, 1929) as well as her last known
recordings (June, 1969)

JUNE 23, 1969
Immediately following Judy's death on June 22, 1969, Barry Gray assembled the
likes of Judith Christ, John Springer, Edward Epstein, and Rex Reed to discuss
the life and career of Judy Garland.
You'll have to take this one with a grain of salt, because despite the fact that
everyone on the panel truly loved Judy, they weere apparently not fully educated
and a few myths are perpetuated.
But a fascinating listen nonetheless.

WHERE JUDY PLAYED
One of our very first installments of Where Judy Played featured highlights of
Barbra Streisand Live at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia.
Well. it is time for part two, so even more of that great concert has been
posted.
Hope that you Babra fan's out there get a kick out of this.

JUDY GOES HOME
It just seemed appropriate to post the only known concert recording of Judy in
her birth state.
This recording has something rare for a bootleg, great sound!

SUNDAY MORNING SPECIAL
This week's Sunday Morning Special featured the music of the great Maxine
Sullivan.
Unfortunately, due to the length of the Barry Gray program, I had to cut
Maxine's set short.
But no fears, you can't keep talent like that away from TJGE and Ms. Sullivan
will definitely be back soon (and singing up a storm).

JUDY LAUGHS
and boy could she!
Somebody requested a file of Judy laughing, and I have posted what I think is a
doozy.
Be sure to check it out, it is in the R&R folder.
But don't blame me if you find her laugh infectious....

THE BING AND ROSIE SHOW #25
Another episode of Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney's daytime radio show has
been posted. This one was recorded on April 1, 1960.

DUELING DIVAS
Doris Day has stepped in to challenge returning champ Rosemary Clooney.
Both sing their own unique renditions of the sentimental The Way We Were.
After listening to the two versions posted in the audio section please go to the
polling area and vote for your favorite.
If Rosie wins she will automatically be placed in the semi-finals, if Dodo wins
she will be back next week to face a new challenger.

NORMAN CHANGED HIS MIND!

Robin and I have discovered a "lost" scene from A Star Is Born that had been cut during the original editing because Cukor was concerned that audiences would not be sympathetic to Esther/Vicki's obliviousness to her husband's cries for help.

A screen grab from the scene has been posted to the homepage.

I can't help but what wonder how differently things may have played out if Esther/Vicki had only stopped her damn humming and turned around.

Both Robin and I have agreed NOT to share the scene with Warner Brothers, and instead we will hoard the clip and run it over and over again for ourselves and nobody, NOBODY else!

At least until it is damaged beyond repair/restoration....

MY JUDY GARLAND LIFE IS NOW AVAILABLE IN PAPERBACK

My Judy Garland Life, now in paperback, is a special and unusual book: sentimental, charming, dear and caring.
This is a memoir that begins with the writer as a little girl, and the enormous love she has for a woman that died the year she was born, Judy Garland. The story of Boyt’s inner travels to the nucleus of this love that has been with her from the start, as a star-struck youngster, as student, young woman, wife, mother, author.
Ms. Boyt takes us on the journey of her years and her travels on a holy pilgrimage. The reader travels to Carnegie Hall for a Judy Garland tribute concert by Rufus Wainwright, to the little mews house where she died, to the hallowed ground of Garland's final resting place and to a festival that celebrates Garland’s birthday in her home town of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. While at the festival, Boyt visits the childhood home and grave of Garland and says a quick prayer for her.
We are taken to visits with Liza Minnelli, Mickey Rooney and others who knew Garland.
A few of the many glorious reviews for My Judy Garland Life:

"I couldn’t put down Susie Boyt’s quirkily brilliant My Judy Garland Life." Elaina Richardson, O, Oprah Magazine

"Never mind that Ms. Garland died when Ms. Boyt was 5 months old; My Judy Garland Life runs on whimsy that is utterly idiosyncratic." New York Times

"A joy to read" The Financial Times

"This wonderfully clever book gives whole self, flings its arms out in a rainy street like a wonderful diva. Brava." Ali Smith, The Times

"An extraordinary book…just glorious" Joseph O’Neill, Guardian, Books of the Year

Boyt’s self-examination and her reminisces make this not only an enjoyable read but a wonderful gift, a gift for many because all of us have our heroes: movie stars, musicians, sports stars. My Judy Garland Life, to quote from the book’s cover, is "For anyone who held a candle to a star."

THE JUDY GARLAND CONCERT CHANNEL

TJGE YouTube channel spawned something, The Judy Garland Concert Channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/GarlandConcerts

Unlike TJGE channel, this one will focus exclusively on Judy, and primarily on rare concerts.

This is all about the aural experience, there will be no gimmicks, no fancy montages, no bells and whistles, just Judy, and the sound of that voice, recorded at a really high bit rate.

The debut concert is a real doozy!
A restored version of the legendary bootleg recording of Judy's last ever performance at the Palace theater in New York. Recorded August 26, 1967.

For those who have trouble navigating sites like YouTube I have included the links to specific segments of the concert:

This is the 8th TJGS soundtrack that Savoy Jazz has put out in 5 years. I think
that tells us a whole lot about how they feel about these recordings, and how
the record buying public feels aas well.

Congratulations to John Fricke and Ranse Ransom for another stellar release in this ongoing, and hopefully never ending, series!

JUDY GARLAND AND JOHNNIE RAY 1969

Judy Garland being brought up on the stage, somewhere in England, by Johnnie Ray.

Is it just me, or does Judy look like she is ready to be a cage dancer at Cafe A-Go-Go?
