TCM CELEBRATES JUDY'S 90TH WITH A 24 HOUR MARATHON

Turner Classic Movies TCM will be celebrating the extraordinary film career of the legendary Judy Garland with a salute on what would have been her 90th birthday, June 10, 2012.

Hosted by TCM's iconic cornerstone, Robert Osborne, and Emmy Award winning author and historian, John Fricke (author of the current best seller JUDY A LEGENDARY FILM CAREER)

The event will start at 6:00 A.M. on June 10th with 1938's Everybody Sing and end at 4:00 A.M. on June 11th with 1963's I Could Go On Singing (AKA The Lonely Stage).

John Fricke is without question the world's foremost authority on all things Garland, and a world class golden era film buff to boot. Paired with Robert Osborne, and his vast knowledge of all things Hollywood, it should be an entertaining and educational dialogue.
Fricke and Osborne will first appear at 12:00 P.M. to co-host the proceedings, and have in depth discussions between the films, for the following 14 hours!

Included in the programming (as selected by Fricke):
* the four pinnacle films of the Garland career: The Wizard of Oz(1939), A Star is Born (1954), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), and Easter Parade (1948, costarring Fred Astaire);
* three of the ten pictures in which she was billed with Mickey Rooney: Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938), Strike Up the Band (1940), and Girl Crazy (1943);
* For Me and My Gal (1942) — the film in which Judy won her first sole-star-billing-above-the-title and in which Gene Kelly made his motion picture debut;
* the re-teaming of Garland and Kelly in Summer Stock (1950);
* one of Judy’s earliest feature showcases, Everybody Sing (1938); and
* her final film, I Could Go On Singing (1963).
Rounding out the Garland 90th birthday celebration is 1990′s The Wizard of Oz: Fifty Years of Magic. Hosted by Angela Lansbury, the Emmy Award-nominated documentary will precede the telecast of The Wizard of Oz.
